I Was Losing My Hair

I was having a major problem, and it was quite devastating to me. When I was younger, I had really thick hair. It was so thick that it took me a lot longer than most people at the beauty salon since I always needed more product for my hair. About six years ago, I started noticing that my hair was getting thinner. I got very concerned, because I had no idea if that meant something was wrong with me or not. I looked at a website that had detailed information on hair loss as well as thinning hair, but I was not able to figure out what was going on with my own hair.

I decided I needed to see a dermatologist since I had found out in my research that this is the kind of doctor that deals with hair loss or thinning issues. I went to one who is not that far from me. I felt very embarrassed at first, because I didn’t like showing my hair to anyone at that point. I would usually wear a scarf or a fashionable hat to hide how thin it was becoming. That was silly though, being embarrassed in front of the one doctor who was best equipped to help me.

He did an examination first, then he had some blood work done just to be able to rule out some factors. He told me it was more than likely genetic, but there were still some options for me. The first thing he wanted me to try was Minoxidil, which is a treatment that can be used on both men and women for hair loss. I started using it that same week, and I had to really practice patience because it can take up to a year to know if it is working or not. The good thing is, that year went fast, and it works like a charm!
